One Day At A Time
“ONE DAY AT A TIME” Digital Illustration, 2025.
This year, we are growing gardens, not moving mountains. I invite you to show up everyday, have patience and be consistent because how we show up for ourselves in the present moment builds our future.
Something that I struggle with is procrastination and not starting things, especially when there are new processes to learn, new software to figure out and doing things differently. I know, objectively, I can do it. I’ve done hard things before, but I still get stuck. I’ve started to realize: it’s not just laziness, it’s not just resistance. It’s a deeper pattern.
Our subconscious has this protective instinct, to keep us in the familiar. To hold us in place, even when we’re ready to grow. So this illustration is an invitation: to slow down, to be curious, to gently ask: what’s really going on underneath the procrastination?.
“ONE DAY AT A TIME” invites us to slow down and unravel what’s really going on behind the procrastination to peer into our subconscious and change things.
This illustration invites you to look and reflect internally, what’s really holding you back?
Is it a fear of being seen?
Is it the overwhelm of all the steps ahead?
Is it uncertainty? Perfectionism?
Is it that nagging voice that says who are you to try this?
The truth is: new ventures can feel like mountains. But when we approach them like gardens, everything changes.
What has helped is reframing my mind into falling in love with the journey. Yes, there are goals that I want to hit but that can’t be the only motivating factor. Falling in love with the journey means fully dedicating myself to the work, to welcome in new routines, to endure the hardships and to connect with something bigger than myself.
You don’t build a garden in a day. You show up. You water. You weed. You wait. And little by little, the work transforms you.
The Symbolism:
The flower is a symbol of the long, winding journey of living in your truth. There will be seasons of growth, of bloom, of rest, of shedding. It’s not linear, and it’s not supposed to be. But it’s yours.
The person sitting wrapped and hugging themselves represents the willingness to soften and open up. To meet yourself in the discomfort of change. To hold yourself with care, even when it feels hard. Especially when it feels hard.
The Moment That Inspired This Illustration
I realized how many times I’d stayed stuck in my head. Telling myself I’d start “tomorrow.” That I needed to feel “ready.” That I’d wait until the overwhelm passed.
The breakthrough comes by showing up everyday. When we choose to love the journey, we’re no longer waiting for the destination to feel whole.
This is your reminder: Just show up and start.
